Accident and Joint Surgery
The traumatology (Greek τραυματολογία traumatología, injuries) is the science of the injuries and wounds as well as their emergence and therapy.
In the form of accident surgery, it deals with the care of patients who have been injured in an accident. In almost all countries except Germany, traumatology has long been an integral part of orthopedics. In Switzerland and Austria, with the long tradition of sports medicine, she stands between surgery, orthopedics and physiology / physiotherapy.
Traumatology is concerned with the treatment of minor and major injuries as well as with the treatment of the so-called polytraumas. The polytrauma is defined as several simultaneously occurring injuries of different body regions, whereby at least one injury or the combination of several injuries is life-threatening.
