Emergency Medicine

Emergency medicine is the sub-area of medicine that deals with the detection and treatment of medical emergencies. It covers the whole rescue chain and is an interdisciplinary field of medicine, in which anesthesiology, internal medicine, surgery and neurology have been the main focus. The following frequently used terms refer to parts of the emergency medicine: Rescue medicine refers in particular to the (preclinical) emergency medicine performed outside of suitable medical facilities. However, it must not be separated from the emergency medicine in the institution - usually a hospital - either professionally or in terms of content.
